Coffee Tours & Tastings
Come visit us! Our tour is perfect for coffee lovers who don’t want the typical tourist experience.
The Orchard Tour and Sheep Meet and Greet
The first part of the visit is an orchard tour where you will learn about the entire coffee farming process including seasonality, growth patterns, ripening, harvesting, pruning, orchard maintenance and pests. You will also taste coffee cherry (the fruit part) straight from the tree before it is processed and roasted. While in the orchard, you will have the opportunity to meet and feed the weed control (our herd of sheep).
Specialty Tasting: Coffee Cupping on the Lanai
After your tour you will head to our the lanai (patio) for a full cupping experience with Kate (Sunshower owner and coffee roaster). Coffee cupping is a type of coffee tasting done by professional coffee tasters (called Q graders) where strict brewing protocols are followed in order to best judge the taste and aroma of a coffee. At our coffee cupping you will taste coffee like a professional and compare at least five different coffees from our farm. These will vary by roast profile, grade of coffee, and process type (natural vs. washed processed). Many groups will also taste our barrel aged coffees depending on availability.
During the cupping you will learn about how Kona coffee differs from other coffee world-wide and where Hawaiian coffees fit in the US coffee industry. We will also discuss how to become an educated coffee buyer at home and best brewing methods for amateurs.
Customize your roast and roast your own Kona Coffee
Planning to buy coffee and want to roast your own? Add on a custom roasting experience to your package! For $130, Kate will explain the fundamentals of coffee roasting and help your group design and roast their own two pounds of Fancy Grade Kona coffee. You will set up and roast your coffee yourself and have two pounds of just-roasted coffee to take home. *Note - if you want to share one roast with a group, sign up for your tour separately below rather than as a group.
Due to Covid and limited staff availability we will not be offering this add on until further notice.
Coffee aficiOnado workshop
In addition to our regular tour and tasting, we have added another coffee experience to our offerings for coffee lovers who want to take their knowledge of coffee to the next level. The Coffee Aficionado Workshop includes everything from our regular tour and tasting, with an extra two hours of specialty coffee instruction. An Authorized Specialty Coffee Association Trainer (“AST”) and certified Q grader from Pacific Coffee Research will teach participants how to tell the difference between specialty and non-specialty coffee. Participants will learn how to identify through tasting, coffee with defects, 10% Kona blends, coffee that has been stored improperly and coffee that has been preground. After that tasting, the AST will lead a 90-minute coffee brewing workshop specifically geared towards learning to brew great coffee at home. This workshop is perfect for coffee lovers who are beginners or intermediate in their coffee knowledge and want to take their coffee skills to the next level.
If you would like to book a Coffee Aficionado Workshop for a day that you do not see listed, and you have at least 4 people in your group, please get in touch with us!
Due to Covid and limited staff availability we will not be offering this add on until further notice.
Orchard tours and tastings are $30/taster. Reserve your spot below!

Tour and tasting FAQs
Why is your tour $30 when many other farms offer free tours?
The short explanation is that your $30 is paying for the cupping session, not the tour, and the cupping is really really awesome.
The long explanation is that our tour and tasting is $30 better than the free tours. The farms that offer free tours are, for the most part, large operations with gift shops and tasting rooms and bunches of employees. Their tastings are pre-brewed coffees that guests sip from little dixie cups. Those tours and tastings are fun too but totally different from ours. Our farm is a family owned and run operation, and every tour is given by us the farm owners or one of our two employees and the tasting is at our house on the deck. The cupping is super in depth, takes over an hour and is quite a bit of coffee! For those reasons, we can't do many each week and we found that when our tastings were $10/person, we were selling out weeks in advance and had a waitlist, while at the same time also having guests who would make reservations and not show up (about 25% actually!). So due to popularity, space and time restraints, and the cost of the cupping experience, we now charge $30.
How long is the tour?
Tours and tastings vary in time depending on the group and the number of questions, but they're generally between an hour and a half and two hours.
Some members of my group do not drink coffee, do they have to pay the $30?
No, definitely not! But we only allow one non-taster for each taster. So, for example, for a group of 4, at least two people would need to be tasters. When you are scheduling your group, sign up for the number of tasters only. Then in the notes section, let us know that there will be more people with you, just so we know who to expect.
Is your tour good for kids?
We do not recommend it. It is certainly fine to bring kids on the tour, and many groups do. But the tour and tasting is definitely designed for adults and is boring for many kids. At the tasting portion there are also large amounts of hot water being poured and it can be dangerous for younger children if they are not very closely supervised.
Why are your tours limited to twelve guests?
We can accommodate groups of any size on the orchard tour, but only twelve guests at once can participate in the tasting. The easy answer for why is that we only have enough tasting cups for 12 people to do a cupping at once. But also, we try to provide individualized attention during the cupping, as it is most guests first time doing it, and we have found that more than 12 people makes that difficult.
There isn’t a time that works for my group, can we schedule one?
Sometimes but usually not. For large groups, where you are buying out the whole tour, and at least 4 weeks of notice, we can schedule something that is not listed.
My plans have changed, can I cancel my tour and get a refund?
Tastings will be refunded if cancelled 24 hours or earlier before your scheduled tour time. No-shows and late cancellations will not be refunded.
Can my group do a roasting class together? How do we book it?
The roasting class can be attended by any amount of people in your group. The $130 cost is the price to roast two pounds of coffee, regardless of the amount of people who will be participating. To book just one roasting, have one person in your group book their tasting separately with the roasting add on. Then the rest of the group should sign up together, without selecting a roasting add on.
We will not have the roasting available indefinitely due to staff shortages. Once it is available again, there will be an option at checkout to add it on to your tour.
I changed my mind about the “roast your own coffee” add-on. Can I get a refund?
Yep! You can get a refund for this add-on at any time, regardless of time of cancellation.
Do you offer private tours?
Yes we do! But we ask that regardless of number of guests that you pay for all 12 spots. Private tours can only be acommodated on Mondays and Fridays at this time. Please email a month in advance for a private tour.
What are your covid protocols?
During the orchard tour we will be fully outside and socially distanced. As there is a bit of a walk to the orchard, we do not require that guests wear masks while outdoors and distanced but we do require distancing from other groups and our hosts. During the tasting portion, which is also fully outdoors, guests will be seated with the group they came with at separate tables 6 feet (or more) apart. Your tour guide will stand at the front, distanced from all guests to give instructions. All of our staff have also been vaccinated.
Schedule Your Tour
Some covid-19 related announcements:
Due to Covid, there are a very limited number of Taxis, Lyfts, and Ubers on the island. We HIGHLY recommend that you have your own transportation to the farm. In the past month, guests have had to wait over an hour for a ride which causes our staff to have to stay late. Starting September 1, we will be closing the gate and all guests will need to depart no later than 30 minutes after their tour. Our farm is not walking distance from anything.
Limited tour availability. if we are offering a tour time, it will be listed here. We rarely have cancellations, but if you would like to be on a “waitlist” for openings, you can text us at (808) 365-4189.
